From the depths of southern Spain emerges a new dark gem of the underground scene – the band Aznaitín. Their debut EP, bearing the same name as the band, is a raw scream of darkness and despair, spread across five tracks of bleak, uncompromising music. This is not for the faint-hearted; it’s authentic, raw black metal, encapsulating everything you’d expect from the genre.

From the first note, it’s clear that Aznaitín isn’t offering any polished production. The sound is gritty, dirty, and deliberately unrefined, adding an authenticity that modern black metal often lacks. The guitars grind and the drums pummel with brutal intensity, while the vocals scream from the depths of hell. This combination creates an atmosphere that is as repulsive as it is captivating.

Despite its rawness, the EP surprises with occasional hints of melody. These moments are rare, but when they appear, they provide a fleeting glimpse of something deeper that could be developed in future releases. Don’t expect any melodic interludes; these passages are more like sharp stabs in a sea of filth and blood.

Each track carries its own dark signature, but it’s hard to shake the feeling that some passages become repetitive and lose dynamism. The vocal performance, though brutal and sincere, could benefit from greater variation to keep the listener constantly on edge.

Aznaitín is not afraid to show its nasty and uncompromising face. This EP is a manifestation of the underground spirit that defies everything conventional and commercial. If you’re looking for something truly repulsive, something that reminds you of the original essence of black metal, Aznaitín delivers.

Overall, I rate the Aznaitín EP 5.5/10. It’s a work that will appeal to true fans of underground black metal, but the band has room to grow and improve. Their future work could be even darker, nastier, and more unforgettable.
